Diocese’s delegates to see Pope
The Diocese of Tucson will be well represented when Pope Benedict XVI visits Washington, D.C., and New York City in April.
In Washington on April 18, Sister Rosa Maria Ruiz, C.F.M.M., superintendent of the Diocese’s schools, will attend an address by the Pope on “Catholic Education in the United States” at The Catholic University of America.
Each archdiocese and diocese in the U.S. will send a representative of Catholic education to the event.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Rev. Msgr. Richard W. O’Keeffe, Episcopal Vicar and pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Yuma, will participate with the Pope in a Mass at RFK Stadium.
In New York City on April 19, the Pope will be joined at a Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral by Rev. Albert Schifano, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the Diocese of Tucson, and Rev. Raul Treviso, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Tucson.
Also, 33 members of various parishes will see the Pope, with 13 going to Washington and the remainder to Yankee Stadium in New York City.
Visiting New York will be Patrick and Jane Mitchell, Charles, Gloria and Mark Roberts, Rosemary and William Seidler, Sarah Bagley and Alonzo Garcia, as well as four members of Holy Family Parish.
Going to Washington will be Michael and Amanda Lillie, Arturo Sanchez, Alan Valencia, Joseph and Ann Suto, Jody and Joy Morales, Eugene and Susan Bostic, Mary Slater, Rita Harding, Tony Piccotti, Adam and Veta Estrada, Deacon Nieves Hernandez, Marco Basulto-Pitol and Rev. Abraham Guerrero, as well as Rep. Raul Grijalva and his wife Ramona.
