St. Ambrose School gives birthday gift to Pope Benedict

St. Ambrose Catholic School in Tucson participated in the “Birthday Blessings for Pope Benedict XVI campaign,” with a series of activities as part of the school’s leadership development class.
St. Ambrose registered for the project and committed to 575 hours of activities by 235 students and faculty.
Students in kindergarten through grade 8 made rosaries during Lent for donation to Casa Maria, while students in grades 6 and 7 did three hour-long service projects on Fridays during Lent.
The school held a Community Service Day on Friday, April 25, with students in grades 6 through 8 going off-campus to provide two hours of direct service to agencies with the community.
Those in kindergarten through grade 5 participated in at least a half-hour of service on campus.
The project’s overall goal was to reach one million hours of community service at Catholic schools nationwide, with presentation of the “gift” to the Pope during his U.S. visit.
The Pope celebrated his 81st birthday on April 16 while making his first visit to the U.S. as Pope.
