Salpointe names new president
Bishop Geral F. Kicanas
Fr. ROBERT CARROLL

Father Robert Carroll, O. Carm., Ph.D., has been named president and head of school at Salpointe Catholic High School.
Father Carroll succeeds Father Fred Tillotson, O.Carm., who left Salpointe last July to become president of the Washington Theological Union in Washington, D.C. In the interim, Kay Sullivan had served as head of school.
“We are thrilled to have a new president at Salpointe with Father Carroll’s depth of experience and commitment to Catholic secondary education,” said Dr. Phil Lacovara, chairman of Salpointe High’s board of directors. “Father Carroll has the ability to take Salpointe to still higher levels of excellence as the school approaches its 60th year.”
Father Carroll served as president and principal of Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago from 1980-1990, and as principal of Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Ill., from 1994-2008. Both schools earned Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education during his tenure, and Carmel Catholic was one of only five schools in the country to have won the award four times.
“There is no question about how honored I am to be offered this position of service and leadership to the Salpointe community,” Father Carroll said. “As a board member for the last four years I have been in admiration of the exceptional depth and richness of the Salpointe educational experience, one that is holistic, professional, and spiritual at the same time. Those who know about the devotion and care of Salpointe families, and the faculty and staff of the school, are in awe with what they see. I am so pleased to become part of the Salpointe family.”
Father Carroll assumed his new duties on Jan. 4 and Sullivan resumed her responsibilities as director of development.
“Salpointe has been in very good hands under Kay’s leadership,” Dr. Lacorava said. “ With the strong support of the leadership team, faculty, staff, parents, students and alumni, Kay has delivered a seamless transition for our students. The board of directors and the entire Salpointe family are extremely grateful.”
