New Vision cited again for ‘general excellence’
Posted on by AdminThe New Vision has been honored for “general excellence” by the Catholic Press Association of the U.S. and Canada for the second time in four years.
Judges cited “its fresh design, editorial selection of stories and good writing” in awarding The New Vision second place in the 2012 competition among Catholic newspapers with circulation of 17,000 to 40,000. The Catholic Herald of Madison, Wisc., took first place.
“Appropriately for its Catholic readership, The New Vision provides side-by-side English and Spanish versions of the Bishop’s letter and a special news and feature section in Spanish,” the judges said. They also cited “a lively exchange of letters…which encourages the paper’s role as the voice of the people of the diocese.”
The New Vision placed second in the same category in 2009.
The newspaper also received an honorable mention in the “best in-depth/special reporting” category for a gripping article by Deacon Ed Sheffer of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Tucson, a prison minister, about his experience with a convicted killer who turned to Christ and ultimately was killed by fellow prisoners.
